A WOMEN who used costume jewellery as a distraction while she stole a 22ct gold necklace and bangle is being sought by police.

The expensive items were taken after she put fake jewellery around a 62-year-old woman's neck and wrist.

At some point while putting the cheap accessories on the real gold was stolen.

Police are treating the incident as robbery and have described the woman as Asian, between 25 and 30 years old, around 5ft 5ins tall and of a slim build.

She was wearing an off-white headscarf, yellow or brown cardigan and jeans at the time.

The robbery took place at around 10.30am on Saturday near to Palmer Park at the junction of Palmer Park Avenue and Wykeham Road.

Investigating officer PC Neil Callaway of Local CID, based at Reading police station said: "We would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or who has any information."
