A FAMILY had to evacuate their home after a tumble drier caught alight and smoked out their house.
The residents spotted the machine on fire in their utility room and left the building to raise the alarm.
Firefighters rushed to the scene in Galsworthy Drive at around 6.40pm yesterday to find the blaze contained to one room but smoke throughout the property.
The homeowners were able to safely evacuate without injury.
Crew manager Tony Smith said: "It was a serious fire in the ground floor utility room started by a tumble drier.
"Everyone was out safe and there were two people in the house.
"It was a small fire in the tumble drier which spread very quickly but stayed in that room."
Smoke damage occurred throughout the house leading firefighters to remind residents to close doors if possible as they leave during a fire.
