A MAN had has face slashed by a knife after he refused to buy drugs off a gang of men after a night out.

The group approached the 27-year-old in Broad Street and pushed him and a friend who was with him at the time.

After being shoved from behind the pair walked off before the gang returned and demanded one of them to hand over their mobile phone.

They then asked if they wanted to buy drugs - an offer which was declined.

One of the men in the group then pulled a knife on the 27-year-old and chased the pair down St Mary's Butts near to Coconut Bar.

The man with the weapon slashed at him and cut his face.

He was taken to the Royal Berkshire Hospital for treatment to his injuries shortly after the assault which took place between 1am and 2.30am on Saturday.

The injured man has since been discharged from hospital.

Police have described the attacker as black, 5ft 8ins to 5ft 10ins tall, broad and clean shaven.

He was wearing a black hooded jumper, a leathery/plastic coat, a bomber style jacket, black tracksuit bottoms, black trainers and a black beanie hat.

A spokesman for Thames Valley Police said: "Police would like to speak to anyone who saw the initial interaction between the victim, his friend and the group in Broad Street, prior to Clas Ohlson shop, or who saw the assault round the corner in St Mary’s Butts."
