A MAN remains in hospital with serious head injuries after he was assaulted earlier today on Oxford Road.
The 32-year-old was walking along with two men, a woman and two dogs when an altercation is said to have broken out.
A 42-year-old man from Reading has since been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.
The victim was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford where he remains in a stable condition.
The assault took place between 1pm and 1.30pm today and Thames Valley Police say they believe the attacker and victim knew each other.
Det Sgt Carl Bradford, from Reading Force CID, said: "Officers are continuing to investigate and I would ask anyone who saw the incident or the group beforehand to contact police on 101.
"I do not think this was a random assault but an incident between people known to each other."
