Hurst Morris People are inviting everyone to have a go at their traditional English pastime at free taster sessions.

Karen Ricketts, an accountant of Twyford went to a taster session three years ago and became a fan of the group nicknamed HuMP.

The mother of two said: “I was looking for something energetic and also social. HuMP was exactly what I wanted."

“The members are welcoming and enthusiastic. As I progressed I learned more dances and now I feel really confident. I do enjoy it.”

The sessions will be held at Hurst Village Hall, School Road, on Thursdays on September 24 and October 1 between 8pm and 10pm. The sessions are open to men and women.

The team’s leader Ian Brant, known as the Squire, said: “Everyone is welcome to have a go. People often tell us they’ve thought of trying morris dancing but have never got round to it.

“It’s great exercise and good fun. Hurst Morris People, affectionately called HuMP, are a friendly crowd.

“Our teachers are very encouraging. It’s easy to make a start and you are soon doing some dances.”

Members’ ages range from people in their 20s to older. The side dances at village pubs and fairs, folk festivals, schools and stately homes.
