Staff who wear uniforms and suits during their shifts at Royal Berkshire Hospital are swapping them for the glad rags for a sing-a-long night of fundraising.

The hospital's League of Friends are hosting the cabaret style evening where staff and supporters will get up on stage and sing.

All the money raised on Saturday, September 19, showcase at the Shinfield Players theatre, in Whitley Wood Lane, will go to purchasing items that make visits to the hospital more comfortable for patients and their families.

Friend's Development Manager Martin Butler said they had performances of numbers form the Carpenters, The Beatles, Abba, Britney Spears and Queen as well as acapella groups. Staff and friends of the hospital with hidden talents have been practicing for the show and preparing their outfits.

He said: "It will be a great evening with a variety of music.

"We have security guards, people who work in the IT department, receptionists, people working in the cancer block, employees from throughout the hospital who are giving their time.

"We want people to come along and have a good time and if they want to sing along too then they can.

"Shinfield Players have been very supportive of the charity for the past five years and have room for 140 members of the audience."

Tickets can be purchased from the League of Friends shop at the Craven Road hospital or by contacting them on 0118 3228592 or lof@royalberkshire.nhs.uk with the show starting at 7.45pm.

The League run two shops in the hospital and money goes into purchasing equipment like chairs for waiting areas and at bedsides, including bariatric chairs and beds, DVD for breast feeding for the maternity, and a nurse for end of life care.
