COLLECTING for good causes is often a mountain to climb for those who volunteer to do the work.

But a group of colleagues employed in the beauty business decided to do just that.

Staffers at Sally Salon Services Ltd, Wharfedale Road, Winnersh, Wokingham, climbed Mount Snowdon, the highest peak in Wales, in support of the children's cancer charity, Little Princess Trust.

The Trust makes wigs out of real hair for children whose own hair has fallen out because of their treatment.

It was no ordinary bout of social climbing. Not only did they reach the summit, 1,085m above sea level, but they took with them a 27-kilo pink salon chair.

On the way up they dished out hair and beauty treatments to fellow climbers and once on the summit they dispensed makeovers including manicures and hair styling.

So in spite of the harsh weather conditions all the climbers ended up looking better than when they set off.

The group expects to raise more than £2,500 once all donations have come in. It was the first time any of the team had climbed the mountain.

The climbers were Nick Dover, Richard Surridge, Sophie Jones, Jacqui Kane, Matthew Willis and Andrew Poole.

Richard Surridge, head of E-Commerce, said: "We are delighted to be able to support the Little Princess Trust and the fantastic work they do."

Jacqui Kane, E-Commerce customer experience, said: "Climbing a 1,085m mountain is hard enough, but doing it carrying a salon chair and beauty box filled with products made it a real challenge.

"Even though it was tough it was worth it to support such a fantastic cause."

The climb took place on August 20.
