PLANS have been submitted for a new access road between Greys Crescent and the Bulmershe Gymnastics club in Woodley.

The club, which hosts more than 1000 members at a variety of levels, used to operate with a small gravel carpark.

But since the Bulmershe School handed over two of their old tennis courts, club members have been able to park in the courts, which offers 41 extra car parking spaces.

The courts can be accessed via the Chequers Way entrance to the school, but the school have announced plans to close the entrance, after it established a new entrance to the site in Woodlands Avenue, Woodley.

The gymnastics club have submitted plans to Wokingham Borough Council to allow a narrow access road to be built, so members can access the converted tennis court parking site from the main road.

Trina Farrance, Head of Coaching and Development at the club, said: "The new road will be to connect the main road to what was the old tennis courts, which we have been using as a car park.

"Bulmershe School are blocking off the Chequers Way entrance, so they have allowed us to put in an access road (subject to planning permission).

"The school have been very supportive with us."

Mrs Farrance said the school are blocking off the old entrance to make the school site safer.

She added that the gymnastics club have taken into account the safety of their members, and doesn't want them to have to park on the main road, which is a short walk away from the club's site.
