Health enthusiasts have spent 24 hours spinning to raise money for a charity that helps bereaved children.

Eight people cycled for 24 hours with a further six joining in for various legs of the day-long charity ride.

The members of Caversham Health and Fitness Club, behind Waitrose, in The Archway, raised almost £6,000 for Daisy's Dream.

Amanda Adlem, owner of the gym, said she has been amazed by the "family" there after took it over it a year ago.

Mrs Adlem said: "When I took over the gym I always wanted to support a charity and have been touched by the work Daisy's Dream does."

The spin started at 6pm last Friday night (August 21) and Mrs Adlem said she stayed with the committed gym goers throughout the night.

She said they did a fantastic job to keep going and the rest came in to do shifts as teams.

She added: "I was taking food and drink to them throughout the night and doing anything I could to help them through.

"We also had other members who were coming in bringing in brownies when they needed something to keep going.

"This is an amazing gym, like a living creature, where everyone knows everyone and supports everyone else.

"It's more than just a business."

Daisy's Dream, based in Twyford, was established in 1996 and is a professional support service that responds to the needs of children and families affected by bereavement across the county.
