FIREFIGHTERS pumped water out of an elderly care home this afternoon after it poured in from the street.
A crew from Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue service were called to the Bolton Care shortly after midday after water poured down from the road into the property.
The home is connected to the road via a disabled ramp, which allowed water to trickle down from the road and through the front door.
Firefighters pumped the water out from the property as it slowly approached the electric lift inside.
A spokesman for Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service said the crew stopped the water from reaching the electronic lift, but the laminate flooring was damaged by the water.
The spokesman said: "We had a minor flood at an elderly care facility in College Road, Reading.
"We were called there at around 12:30, they have a ramp rather than stairs down to the entrance and the water was inside the old peoples home and towards the electric lift.
"It would have ruined the laminate flooring."
The spokesman added that despite being distressed and concerned about the residents' welfare, the staff at the care home were professional and helpful.
