NEIGHBOURS on a Woodley housing development “have reached rock bottom” in their battle to fix hundreds of problems in their new homes.

Residents in Loddon Park, built on Sandford Farm, feel “disappointed” that their new homes are riddled with a catalogue of “disgraceful” snags and are not being supported by developer Taylor Wimpey.

Luke Mahon and his wife Alison found their £580,000 four bedroom home has been built without any insulation and have put photographs of their snags in the front room window for passers-by to see after becoming frustrated with the developer.

The couple moved in last September and have around 140 issues yet to be fixed, which include a broken £3,500 granite kitchen work top and toilets not being fitted properly.

They struggled for weeks to secure a move-in date, having originally been told to wait until January.

Mr Mahon, who has also set up the Twitter account @MyHouseSucks to highlight these issues, said: “We needed to secure a date to allow the sale of our previous house to go through.

“I shouldn’t have to resort to these sorts of measures to get something done.

“I’m really disappointed because we were told we’d have a new home that wouldn’t need any work as we want to start a family. We lived in Caversham for seven years and did a lot of work on it.

“We didn’t want to live in a building site again, and that’s what’s happened.”

The development is currently made up of 48 properties, ranging from two bedroom apartments to four bedroom houses, and there are plans to build another 450 homes by 2019.

Jason and Tracey Bass felt rushed to finalise their move last summer as they were on holiday in Spain when Taylor Wimpey contacted them to complete important documents.

The pair were forced to finish the forms while they were still abroad and started living in their three bedroom house in August.

Since then three separate garden patios have been installed because rain water keeps flowing into the garage, causing it to flood and Mr Bass said: “We haven’t found anyone living here who is happy.

“The site manager told one lady who lives on her own that they are building water-tight properties, not Rolls Royces. But we are paying Rolls Royce prices.

“It’s disgraceful.”

Mrs Bass added: “We have reached rock bottom with the circumstances that we find ourselves in.”

Taylor Wimpey insists it is constantly working with residents to repair faults and a spokesman said: “We would like to apologise to Mr Mahon and his wife for the issues they have experienced with their new home.

“We are in regular contact with the customers, and have met with them to discuss their specific concerns. During these meetings we have agreed the work that will be undertaken to resolve the issues and we will complete this as soon as possible.”
