FIREFIGHTERS reunited a newborn calf with its mother after it wandered into the Kennet and Avon Canal and got stuck.
Crews from Newbury fire station and the animal rescue unit in Caversham Road, Reading, found the frightened creature in Thatcham Lock near Station Road at 7.30am today (Friday) after it escaped from a nearby field.
They used a harness to lift it from the water before a firefighter covered it with a blanket and cuddled it to keep it warm before handing it to the farmer.
Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue (RBFRS) spokeswoman Nicole Target said: "The calf was a bit soggy and scared but otherwise okay."
