With such an eclectic array of music on the bill, it was clear from the start that the last day of the festival would far from disappoint with something for everyone.

What’s great about Reading is the diversity of the crowds who flock to it and that is definitely reflected in the line-up.

Kendrick Lamar followed by The Libertines? Only in the alternate universe of Reading Festival would that be possible.

From past experience the last day is when everyone is feeling mellower, tired out from a weekend of camping and not feeling particularly fresh and that was definitely the vibe last Sunday, though things certainly get more exciting as night time falls.

But that doesn’t mean the creative juices weren’t flowing with raw and fresh talent such as Jack Garratt delivering a breathtaking and surprise performance on the BBC Introducing stage ahead of his slot on the Festival Republic stage.

His raspy husky tones, akin to Mumford & Sons who performed a stunning set on Friday were an instant crowd winner and left us hungry for more.

The excitement surrounding Years and Years’ performance and Gorgon City on the NME stage in the evening was palpable and it was hilarious to see thousands gravitating towards the tent in a sea of wellies, raincoats and cups of cider.

Both were electric and the billowing smoke effects and sudden release of confetti at the end of Gorgon City’s set were spectacular and one of the weekend’s most memorable moments.

Frances Decelis, 23, a teacher from Slough, had headed along to the festival for the first time ever as a day ticket-holder.

She said: “My friends have been before but I’d never thought of myself as much of a festival-goer as I like my home comforts too much!

“I wasn’t sure what to expect and I was a bit apprehensive as Reading gets a bit of a bad reputation sometimes as quite rowdy and mucky but I’ve been pleasantly surprised!

“The highlights for me were Years and Years and Gorgon City but also Russell Kane on the Alternative stage who honestly I didn’t expect to be so hilarious!”

The girls at the German Sausage truck had been serving hungry punters at the festival since day one and had travelled all the way from Essex to dish up the grub to ravenous revellers.

They said: “Business has been fairly steady but we’ve had a lot of people come and go and there’s a great atmosphere.

“We’ve heard things just get quite crazy out in the campsite particularly on the final night but as we’re tucked away safely here in the main area we’re away from all that!”

Just a stone’s throw away from the main stage the girls had the perfect location to eavesdrop on the live music and have a giggle at all the weird and wonderful outfits on display.
