IN GENERAL, a career starts when education finishes, yet there are exceptions - among them teenage entrepreneurs - but with lifelong learning more prevalent, the patterns and rules of study and work are changing.

Former Tilehurst resident Glenn Wallace left school at 16 to work for Reading Borough Council and then spent 10 years working in customer services at various companies, but in a lifestyle and career about-turn Glenn relocated to Manchester and within six months of doing so, is in the process of setting up his own film and post production company, Creative Instincts.

Glenn said: "I have a lot of ideas and now I have the equipment and the people to create promo videos and ads. The process is an ongoing learning curve and together we are developing our skills. Individually we bring our talent and expertise in production, sound, video and post production to the table and collectively we produce very good things."

Recently, Glenn has posted a showreel of his recent work on YouTube (and Vimeo - http://www.vimeo.com/22262319?ab ), edited in Final Cut Pro, and filmed on a Sony V1 and a P2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-_ntO4zo1ZQ and he has just finished a video for entry into an American competition.

The short timescale of a TV commercial or music video belies the immense amount of work, creativity and technical expertise that go into their production. The process of creating professional quality video can be expensive and corporate or music videos can typically cost anything from £400 to £4,000 per minute.

This is where Glenn's fledgling company has the edge - with its low overheads, Creative Instincts can create a three minute video from as little as £300. Not surprising then that the team is receiving requests from individuals for wedding and family assignments as well as commissions from the commercial sector.
