Traditional Fare: The value-for-money Amir at Binfield

If you are a fan of traditional curry houses with recognisable menus, attentive service and the right sort of décor and music you can’t go far wrong with Amir. a great little Indian restaurant tucked away on a quite shopping precinct in Binfield.

The manager of Amir, Tariq, has overseen the restaurant for thirteen years. He’s a lovely guy who seems to know all his customers by name and clearly cares personally that everyone really enjoys themselves.

He’s put a good menu in place with all the favourites plus a few more unusual duck and seafood dishes, along with two curries - Ghurka and Nepal - that are unique to Amir.

You’ll be pleased to know that papadoms come with all the usual chutneys, and the mixed starters really deliver both in terms of value and quality.

Chicken tikka, samosas, sheekh kebab, bhajis, various pakoras and the good old side salad garnish for just £3.75 each.

You can’t complain at that price, especially when the meats are moist and well spiced, and the portions really generous.

Main course was equally impressive. The tandoori mixed grill was the biggest I’ve seen, with tandoori chicken, huge king prawns, sheikh kebab and lamb tikka that were all lightly charred, moist and juicy.

The vegetable dhansak was thick and rich, the more original vegetable Nepal came in a cream sauce with mango pieces; both very generous and containing a variety of vegetables. The plain nan bread was very big, very light and very puffy – exactly what you want.

Service at Amir is attentive and informative. They happily make suggestions and they don’t take the chutney back after you’ve polished off your papadoms.

The restaurant is clean, well looked after and is traditionally decorated.

The food is well done, not at all greasy and, as curry houses go, very good value for money. If you like to feel welcome and know where you are when you go for a curry this is definitely the place for you.
