Cookham Dean close in on title

They have already bagged at least runners-up spot and the only side who can catch them are local rivals Marlow Utd Res who must win all of their remaining six games to do so.

Cookham took the lead on 32 minutes when a Jason O’Conner cross was met by veteran player/manager Dave Clarke who powered a header home at the far post.

Chris Ellis missed a gilt edged opportunity before Cookham added a second two minutes before the interval when Xavier Etienne slid the ball home from close range.

The home side continued to run the game at the start of the second half and Mark Hayes saw his half volley crash off the woodwork. Clarke put the rebound into the net, but the effort was ruled out for handball.

However, the hosts made certain of the points with 10 minutes remaining when John Heaney and Calvin Davies combined to release Jon Schaaf who neatly slid the ball past the advancing keeper.

Division One

Champions-elect South Reading took another step towards the Division One title with a comfortable 5-1 victory over local rivals SRCC with Danny Seaward leading the way with two efforts.

Ben Lyden, Ryan Kingsbeer and Adam Kingsbeer also found the net with Adam Williams notching the SRCC consolation.

Division Two

Berks County Sports Res’ Division Two title hopes suffered a severe blow as they were held to a goalless draw by local rivals Woodley Town Res.

However, this result did Woodley no good either as their faint hopes of a top two finish disappeared.

Sports can still end the campaign as runners-up if they win their final game of the season on Saturday against lowly Sonning. And they could also still snatch the title in the unlikely event of leaders Berinsfield FC slipping up in their final two games against Woodley Town Res and Woodcote/Stoke Row Res.

Division Three

Long term Division Three leaders Barton Rovers secured the title at the weekend with a comfortable 3-1 win at Crowthorne Sports through goals from Daniel Sergeant (2) and Martin Campbell. Doug Hunter replied for Crows.

Division Four

Bell & Bottle clinched the Division Four title with a resounding 7-2 success at Taplow Utd A with Ellis Mason, Stuart Milne and Michael Porter all notching twice. Alex Allen also netted with Lynden Dolby and Gareth Greenaway replying for the Maidenhead side.

Turnpike Sports were the day’s highest scorers as they rattled in no less than 12 goals past hapless Winnersh Rangers without reply.

Mark Davies led the way with a fantastic five-timer and Brett Lunnon struck a hat-trick with Matthew Byrne, Ian Page, Dean O’Reagan and Neil Jones completing the rout.
