Hunt makes international bow
Reading striker Noel Hunt made his international debut for the Republic of Ireland in their 3-2 friendly defeat at home to Poland on Wednesday night.
Hunt had initially been over-looked by Eire boss Giovanni Trapattoni despite hitting eight goals in the Championship this season, but injuries to Robbie Keane and Aiden McGeady have finally given him his chance.
Hunt came off the bench after 60 minutes and although the Irish eventually lost the match, it proved to be a good evening for the Hunt family as brother Stephen scored his first goal for his country as he slotted home an 88th penalty after Royals team-mate Shane Long had been brought down in the box.
Both Hunt brothers were introduced on the hour mark, with Noel coming on for Royals striker Kevin Doyle to win his first ever cap.
Poland, who looked to be heading for a comfortable victory after establishing a 2-0 lead, eventually won a thrilling game 3-2, with three goals being scored in the final two minutes.
