Hunt drafted into Irish squad

Comment Bubble Comments (0) Printer Print Article

Reading striker Noel Hunt has been called into the Republic of Ireland squad for the first time ahead of their friendly international at home to Poland tonight (Wednesday).

Hunt had initially been over-looked by Eire boss Giovanni Trapattoni despite hitting eight goals in the Championship this season, but injuries to Robbie Keane and Aiden McGeady have finally given him his chance.

Irish thrash Falcons to re-claim top spot

London Irish stormed back into top spot in the Guinness Premiership with a seven-try demolition of lowly Newcastle Falcons. Tries from Topsy Ojo, Steffon Armitage, Declan Danaher and Peter Hewat saw the Exiles secure the bonus-point by half-time, before Alex Corbisiero, Mike Catt and Seilala Mapusua crashed over in the second half.

Toby gives youth a chance

LONDON Irish head coach Toby Booth has brought youngsters Alex Corbisiero and Tom Homer into the starting line-up for tomorrow’s (Saturday) Guinness Premiership clash with Newcastle Falcons. Prop, Corbisiero, 20, replaces Clarke Dermody in the front row, while Homer, 18, comes in on the wing in place of Sailosi Tagicakibau, who broke his arm in last Saturday’s defeat against Saracens.

Bates eyes Falcons upset

NEWCASTLE Falcons head coach Steve Bates has backed his side to cause an upset against London Irish at the Madejski Stadium tomorrow (Saturday). The relegation-threatened side welcome back Kiwi prop Carl Heyman for only his third start of the season, but scrum-half Micky Young (hamstring), prop Jon Golding (neck) and long-term absentee Jonny Wilkinson (knee) all miss out.

Exiles hit by Tags injury

LONDON Irish have been rocked in the lead up to Saturday’s home clash against Newcastle Falcons with the news that star winger Sailosi Tagicakibau faces up to two months on the sidelines. The Samoan sensation was forced off after 60 minutes of the Exiles’ 16-13 loss to Saracens last weekend. And a scan has since confirmed that he has broken his arm.

Sarries end Irish run

HIGH flying London Irish’s ten-game winning streak finally came to an end on Saturday against Eddie Jones’ Saracens. The Exiles slipped to second in the Guinness Premiership table after a lacklustre display, but the losing bonus point leaves them just one point adrift of new leaders Bath.
