Motorists stopped in road safety crackdown

A POLICE road safety crackdown saw more than 80 motorists stopped on Oxford Road yesterday (Thursday)

Drivers were pulled over for offences including not wearing a seatbelt and driving without insurance.

Eleven vehicles were impounded for being uninsured or the driver not having a valid licence, and 16 vehicles were seized by officers from the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency for having dangerous mechanical defects.

A further 44 drivers were stopped and issued with fixed penalties for not wearing their seatbelts and another 14 for using their mobile phones while driving.

Reading road safety sergeant Chris Appleby, said: “These results clearly show that Thames Valley Police and their partners will not tolerate irresponsible driving in any form, and will use all measures to prevent death and injury on our roads.”
