Sunday League forced to extend season

The heavy snowfall last Saturday night saw all the games called off and the Sunday League moved quickly to cover the lost games by agreeing to extend the season until Sunday, May 4

The league released a statement which read: “At the management committee meeting on April 3, in light of the recent bad weather and the amount of fixtures lost, an extension to the season was approved.

“A week’s extension until Sunday, May 4 should hopefully solve some of the fixture pile-up. Evening fixtures will be scheduled for April 29 and May 1. Sunday, May 4 is within 24 hours of a bank holiday so the league cannot force clubs to play on that date.

“Therefore any clubs wishing to be excused should do so straightaway by phoning the fixtures secretary (Caroline Hitt) on 961 2927 or league secretary (Dave Marshall) on 941 7122.

“The league officers hope that clubs will co-operate with the league and finish the season on the pitch.”
