A MAN sexually assaulted a 15-year-old girl after cornering her near a leisure centre.

The girl was walking near the South Reading Lesiure Centre in Northumberland Avenue, Whitley, at around 8.40pm on Sunday, when the man came up to her and asked to borrow her cigarette lighter.

He walked off with it to the back of the leisure centre, then when she asked for it back, he approached her and pushed her against a fence. He then pulled her towards him and touched her back and bottom.

The frightened girl called for help to a woman walking her dog and the man ran off through the leisure centre. He is black, aged 20-30, around 5ft 6ins, medium to large build and has short hair. He was wearing a hooded jumper and dark jeans.

Det Sgt Dave Turton said: “I would like to speak to any one who has any information or was in the area at the time of the assault and saw anything suspicious.

“In particular I would like to speak to and would urge the lady who stopped to speak to the victim to come forward.”

Contact DS Turton through the 24-hour non-emergency number 0845 850 5505 or call charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
