Drivers stopped by police

DISAPPOINTED police say too many drivers are still flouting the law.

A two-hour road safety check on the A329 Reading Road in Pangbourne on Monday morning netted 21 drivers, with the most common offence being driving without a seatbelt. Police handed out £30 fixed penalty notices to 16 such drivers, but they all opted for roadside education from road safety officers in place of the fine.

Another two drivers got £60 fines and three points on their licences for using a mobile phone behind the wheel, and another was stopped for driving with an excessively tinted window. Two others had their vehicles seized for not driving in according with their licence.

PC Julian Weal said: “We have done a number of these checks on the A329 and it is disappointing to see that the message does not seem to be getting through to motorists. These checks offer a mix of enforcement and education and we will continue conducting them until we get the message across.”

Yet more money generated.. for the policemans ball.. still better they do that than their usual activities harrassing old age pensioners and arresting them for not being able to afford to pay their telivision licence fee...useless police force.. despite having the best equipment money can buy...
