STAFF from a Newbury burger bar were threatened at knife point by two thugs on Sunday.

The men entered through the back door at Rios Burger Bar in the Eight Bells Arcade around 10pm, before pulling a knife on staff and demanding cash from the till.

No-one was injured in the attack, but the thieves stole cash and escaped on bicycles down an alley to Bartholomew Street, where they split up and went in different directions.

Investigating officer Det Con Jason Watkins said: “Fortunately, no-one was injured in the incident but it was obviously a terrifying ordeal for the members of staff concerned.

“We need to speak to anyone who saw these men acting suspiciously either shortly before the incident or fleeing from the burger bar immediately afterwards.”

The men, aged between 18-25 years old, wore gloves and hooded tops which were kept up to cover their face.

Contact Det Con Watkins on 08458 505505 with any information.
