WORLD famous pianist Radu Lupu has paid tribute to his Reading fans after being taken ill during a performance at the Town Hall.

More than 600 music lovers packed the Concert Hall on Sunday, October 5, but Mr Lupu was forced to abandon his performance of Beethoven and Schumann halfway through and flew home to Switzerland.

Yesterday Mr Lupu’s agent Helen Turner said he is on the mend and added: “He had some tests that showed he had a very bad virus. He had to go to hospital for a few days but he’s now at home, resting. He is due to start playing again this week.

“Mr Lupu thanks everyone for all the letters and phone calls of support he has received and he hopes to be able to play in Reading in the not too distant future.”

The performance was a near sell-out and 620 concert-goers had paid up to £22 each for tickets.

Contact the Box Office on 0118 960 6060 for information about refunds.
