Firefighters appeal to stop 'rubber necking'
By Alex Gore
FIREFIGHTERS are appealing for drivers to stop ‘rubber necking’ after rushing to deal with a car fire on the M4.
Crews from Dee Road fire station were called to put out a car that caught fire between Junction 12 and 13 at 9pm yesterday[10] but were shocked to witness an accident after passing motorists failed to resist the temptation to have a look.
Firefighter Gareth Evans said: “There were four guys in the car who decided to get out as it was overheating but as soon as they did the car went up in flames.
“We dealt with the fire pretty promptly but as we were dealing with it passing drivers were slowing down to have a look which caused a small accident when one car went into the back of another.
“Thankfully it was just a minor collision but there was a lot of traffic and the incident could have been a lot worse.
"We would like appeal to all motorists to keep their eyes on the road and not to rubber neck.”
