LETTER box burglars have struck in Earley and Woodley every day for the past two weeks.

Police are investigating 14 raids in as many days in the Earley, Lower Earley and Woodley areas and say householders are still not doing enough to protect themselves.

Raiders reach in and either hook valuables or keys within easy reach, or pulled down the door handle to let themselves in.

Inspector Lindsay James, deputy area police commander, said: “Burglars use the letterbox as an access point, sometimes using a metal bar to open the door from the inside or to hook small items through the letterbox. It is so easy to prevent yourself from becoming a victim.”

The three point plan to prevent your home being targeted is deadlock your front door, keep door keys out of reach and valuables out of sight.

Anyone with information on letterbox burglaries should contact police on 08458 505505.
