The Mall Gallery in London where the exhibition will be held
ARTISTS can draw on their creative skills to help charity and win a place in an exhibition or even £1,000.
Amateur and professional artists are invited to submit pieces of work to Sue Ryder Care for a chance to be included in its Art Liberating Lives exhibition in the Mall Galleries in London in December. There is 25% off art supplies in the charity’s shops to help get the work under way.
Victoria Glover, the charity’s head of events, said: “Last year we had a wonderful array of artwork including paintings, drawings, collages and sculptures and we are hoping that many more people will take part this year to express what they feel liberation stands for in their life.
“Art really does liberate lives at Sue Ryder Care, which offers residential, respite and day care, as well as community-based services for people living with conditions including Huntington’s Disease, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, strokes and cancer, and is a powerful way for people to express themselves in a way which their condition may otherwise make difficult.
“The benefits of art therapy include increased interaction and conversation between residents and better mobility and co-ordination.”
The charity is working with the Society for All Artists, which helps people of all abilities get involved in art, and hopes to raise more than £50,000.
It costs £12.50 to enter and 350 pieces will be chosen for the exhibition. If the work is sold, 45% of the sale – including VAT and commission – will go to Sue Ryder and 55% will go to the artist. Registration closes on Monday, October 20.
