A FORMER teacher at a Whitley school accused of assaulting a pupil had his case adjourned today.

Andrew Johnson, 35, was due to appear at Reading Magistrates’ Court this morning but the hearing was postponed until October 13.

Johnson was deputy headteacher at John Madejski Academy, and is accused of assaulting a 13-year-old pupil on June 23.

Johnson, of Gretton Close, Peterborough, was due to start as principal at City of Ely Community College at the start of the new term last week.

But the college’s website says: “Due to a change in his personal circumstances, the governors and leadership team regret to inform you that Andy Johnson will not be joining the college as principal.”

Its vice-principal has been appointed acting principal.
