Youth centre proposal given the green light
By Simon Farr
A PROPOSAL to rebuild a popular village youth centre has been given the green light.
West Berkshire Council submitted an application to demolish the existing Adventure Dolphin Centre in Whitchurch Road, Pangbourne, and replace it with a brand new complex.
The two-storey centre will include facilities for water sports and a climbing wall and was granted conditional planning permission at Wednesday's Eastern Area Planning Committee meeting.
Councillor for Pangbourne Pamela Bale said:“Those who know the current building and the neighbourhood will realise and understand the need for a rebuild. Any new building will of course have to be sympathetic to the neighbouring area and the residents.”
Five letters against the application had been received citing various objections including concerns that the development would have a negative impact on the village regarding the increase of traffic, noise pollution and the neighbouring meadows.
But Councillor Bale moved to quash the fears of worried residents and said the building will not impact on the meadows around the site. She also confirmed there are no plans to increase the number of activities and classes at the centre.
