GIANT Jenga, Indian hand decoration and a bouncy castle were just some of the attractions which kept people entertained at a charity village fete.
Sunday’s Purley Village Fete was organised by Purley Sports and Social Club and saw dozens of stallholders entertain the steady stream of people who attended the event at the recreation ground in Beech Road.
Organiser and club secretary Charlotte Bishop said she was pleased with how the event went.
The Chronicle caught up with Sarah and Andrew Garratt, who were playing the putting game with their three-year-old son, Joshua. Mrs Garratt said:
“We were just waiting for the rain to stop before we set out, it’s been terrible all morning.
“We’ve had a look at a few things and Joshua’s been spending his pocket money. We do like coming to things like this in the village, it’s just nice to have these things in the community.
“It’s an inexpensive day out and Joshua’s enjoying himself.”
The 1st Purley and Pangbourne Scout Group put on a different golf-themed game, giant Jenga and giant four in a row and sold sweets.
The troupe is looking out for adults to become leaders, and cub leader Simon Hawkins said: “You don’t need to have had any special training, we tend to use the skills people have already and adapt them.
“For example, if you only have administration skills, that’s then a job that another leader doesn’t have to do.”

The fete is the latest in a series of fundraising activities by the sports and social club, which has also included a 24-hour pool marathon and Miss Bishop anticipates a donation of more than £2,000 to Thames Valley Air Ambulance later this year.
