Praise for volunteers at holiday club
PAINT, sand and water made a messy recipe for fun at a children’s summer holiday club.
Staff at Southcote Children’s Centre have praised volunteers who gave their time to make it possible.
Early years worker Christine Jarvis said: “We’ve had fantastic volunteers. It wouldn’t have been able to happen if they hadn’t come. They were great.
“We did a leaflet drop in Granville Road and around the area, which worked really well.
“Lots of new families came and we had on average 25 children a day. It’s been a real success.”
The free sessions had a different theme for each of the four weeks so children could learn about animals, water, food and, last week, transport.
Children aged up to seven were able to make hot air balloons, play with wooden toys and make pictures by running miniature cars through paint.
The club was held in St Matthew’s Church Hall in Southcote Lane, but the children’s centre is based in Coronation Square.
