Developers consult over Pincent's Hill proposal
By Alex Gore
Proposed site for development
DEVELOPERS who plan to build homes on a disused golf course will hold a public consultation with residents and stakeholders.
Blue Living and associate company Beyond Green, which is helping with the design process, will produce plans for the Pincent’s Hill site following the five-day design enquiry at the Calcot Centre in High View.
Residents and interested parties, including Sainsbury’s Savacentre and Tilehurst Parish Council, have been invited to make observations and offer their ideas to architects who will draw up draft proposals on the spot.
The results will be presented on the final day before the developers put together firm designs and a planning application.
But any proposal is likely to meet fierce opposition from neighbours who see the site as part of the 'green wedge’, between Tilehurst, the M4 motorway and Theale that ought to be protected.
Tilehurst council clerk Liz Best said: “Tilehurst Parish Council would prefer Pincent’s Hill to remain open space, however future possible consideration could be given to local demands for a burial ground and allotments.”
Beyond Green spokesman Dave Copeland said: “We can’t take everyone’s opinions into account and respond positively to all of them, but they are welcome to come and make their views known.
"West Berkshire Council is under pressure from the Government to provide 10,500 new homes and we believe we can help meet that target.
"Also the 'green wedge’ was compromised when permission was given for a night club, Savacentre and McDonalds in Bath Road, so you can’t call it a significant green space any more.”
Ideas can be discussed on Thursday, September 4, 6.30-8.30pm and from 10am-4pm on September 6-7 with architects.
Then on September 9 between 6.30-8pm the results will be presented, all at the Calcot Centre, Highview.
