A-LEVEL results in the Reading borough are up for the second year in a row and youngsters have beaten national averages yet again.
Some 98.9% of the town’s students passed their exams with A to E grades, up from 98% last year.
And 55.6% of the grades achieved in the area were A this year, up from 49% last August.
Nationally this year there was a 97.2% overall pass rate, up from 96.9% last year, and the country-wide average for A grades was 25.9% this year, up from 25.3%.
AT Wokingham borough schools standards were also high, giving an overall A-E pass rate of 98.4%, improving on last year’s figure of 97.9%
Cllr Norman Jorgensen, children’s services leader, said: “After two years of hard work and dedication, our pupils are celebrating great achievements in their A-level results.
“Their hard work has certainly paid off and I wish them all the very best for the future as they choose whether to carry on with their education either at university or college or leave education in search of employment.
“Their results will stand them in good stead for future success.
“Once again today, we have seen some excellent results but we are not complacent.
“Our vision is for excellent children’s services and skills for all.
"We have made a long-term commitment to provide a high standard of education and it is important that our young people have the right skills to get them into further education and employment.”
