Cash stolen in armed robberies
ROBBERS stole cash at knifepoint in two Tilehurst raids.
On Friday two teens, one white and one mixed race, threatened staff at the Coral bookmakers in Park Lane with a knife and made off with cash, while on Sunday three yobs targeted the Hop Inn in the same road.
The three robbers, one white, one black and one Asian, stole cash and fled in a black or dark blue Volkswagen Gold driven by a white girl or woman.
Det Con John Wordsworth, from Reading CID said: “The staff were left very shaken by these robberies. If anyone saw any suspicious behaviour in the vicinity around the time of these incidents I would ask them to contact me.”
Crime Reduction Adviser John McNicholas added: “It’s very important to be aware of people hanging around, especially outside normal business hours. Watch out for anything suspicious around neighbouring premises and ask them to do the same.
“There is no point taking risks. Your safety is more important than feeling you should challenge the offenders. Your best weapons are your eyes and ears. They are highly effective in both preventing and detecting crimes such as this. Many successful prosecutions have been achieved because of vigilant witnesses - it’s all about increasing the risk to the offender of being identified whilst minimising the risk to yourself.”
Anyone with information can contact Det Con Wordsworth police switchboard on 0845 8 505 505, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
