PARK play equipment has been wrecked after it was set alight in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Firefighters suspect the balancing toy in Laurel Park, Earley, was deliberately torched at around 2am, followed by a spate of bin fires around Maiden Place, Lower Earley, at 3.15am. Empty drink cans and vodka bottles were found in the park.

Watch manager Dave Sharp of Wokingham Road fire station said: "Sadly it's quite a frequent occurrence. On a Friday or Saturday night people come back late, walk down the back streets and for some reason best known to themselves want to turn the bins over and set light to them."
