THERE was a touch of Hollywood when a west Reading school spent an evening celebrating students’ achievements.
Parents, friends, governors and staff gathered to salute youngsters from years 7, 8 and 9 at Prospect School for their hard work this year.
At the Hollywood-themed event, musical entertainment was provided by the Prospect School Samba Drummers and its choir.
Ocean rower, polar adventurer and Guinness world record holder Jan Meek gave an inspiring talk about her round-the-world escapades with her son, proving that ordinary people are capable of the most extraordinary feats if they believe in themselves.
The Head of Year awards were given to pupils who consistently aspired to and achieved academic excellence, while setting an example to the wider school community, as their year group’s most positive role models.
Winners were Amina Bhatti and Daniel Mackenna in year 7, Samantha Edwards and William Morley in year 8 and Lauren Bray and Christian Ebue in year 9.
Sportsperson of the Year awards were given to students who always demonstrated good communication and teamwork skills, commitment and leadership, acting as role models and provided inspiration for others.
These were given to Chanelle Miah and Ben Moyo in year 7, Dominique Williams and Jamie Porter in year 8 and Taylor Fenton-Shepherd and Chris Kendell in year 9.
A new prize, The Eco Award, was given for the first time to the person who has contributed the most to the ECO School’s Action Group, won by Jordan Critcher in year 7.
The final presentation of the evening saw The Headteacher’s Awards, which acknowledge students who set their goals high, believed in their abilities and as a result achieved high standards, given to Raven Bowyer and Felix Ynojosa in year 7, Deborah Pope and William Beauchamp in year 8 and Ashlee Wiley and Arsilan Bilal in year 9.
Headteacher Deborah Ajose told the audience: “I am very proud of the achievements of all the students here and the school as a whole. We are all going from strength to strength.
"In the future, I hope that the students will remember how much they have already achieved and draw strength and inspiration from it when facing new challenges.”
