New PCs on beat
Inspector Penny Mackenzie
TWO new faces in charge of Caversham’s police team say they are ready to pound the beat.
Inspector Penny Mackenzie took over from Graham Dix on July 1, as exclusively revealed in The Chronicle, while Sergeant Nigel Scarratt will be replaced by Sgt Rob Pitman on August 1.
Sgt Rob Pitman
Insp Dix left to become partnerships inspector, working with the Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership at Thames Valley Police’s headquarters in Kidlington, Oxfordshire, while Sgt Scarratt left for Earley.
Insp Mackenzie has been in Thames Valley Police for 15 years, most recently at the public protection unit based at Reading police station.
Insp Mackenzie said: “This is a new and exciting challenge for me and one that I am really looking forward to.
“Initially I will be spending time getting to know my neighbourhood teams and the various communities they cover.
“Then I will look at tackling some of the local issues.
“A lot of good work has been carried out by the neighbourhood teams in Caversham and I am looking forward to building on those successes with the support of our partners and the local community.”
Sgt Pitman, who is on the community safety team at Reading, said: “I am really excited to be taking up this new role and can’t wait to get started.
“Having previously worked as a beat officer in Caversham early in my career, I am thrilled to join the neighbourhood team and I am looking forward to making a difference to the community we serve.”
The Caversham team has also recently been joined by Neighbourhood Specialist Officer, PC Debbie Smith, who previously worked in Tilehurst.
