AN 80-YEAR-OLD woman died on Friday when she was hit by a van door.

The un-named woman was walking down the High Street in Goring towards the town centre at 11.50am when the white van drove past and the rear near-side door swung open.

It struck the woman, who was taken to the Royal Berkshire Hospital with serious injuries and died later that afternoon.

The van was marked with the company details TW Ludgate & Son, and Sgt Bill Sykes from the Abingdon Roads Policing Base said: “I am keen to speak to any one who saw this van, registration J3 TWL, prior to the collision or anyone who has any information about this incident who has not yet spoken to police.”

Anyone with any information should contact Sgt Bill Sykes via 0845 8 505 505.

* The van driver, a 55-year-old man, has been arrested in connection with the incident and released on bail to return to Abingdon Police Station on August 12.
