Students transform double-decker bus
TWO university students transformed a double-decker bus into a home from home and it proved just the ticket to help earn their fine arts degree.
Victoria Brook, 22, and Caroline Fletcher, 49, (pictured right) of Reading University, named their colourful project Not Here.
They borrowed the bus from a farmer and the giant pink artwork was sponsored by local companies. Victoria said: “We’ve been working together since the first year of university. We felt we worked really well together, and the bus was a combination of our hard work.”
The bus signifies the idea that people horde possessions to create their own habitats.
Victoria, originally from Eastbourne, and Caroline spent three months touring charity shops to gather unwanted items.
The bus includes a bar made of LP records, a 'love corner’ with a bed and a tree growing from the side of the top deck.
Caroline, who grew up in Reading, said: “We’ve had lots of positive feedback. It is so accessible, and people like to interact with the artwork.”
They hope the bus will become a permanent piece of artwork. The work was sponsored by Reading-based companies, including Drew Ironmongers, the Welding Shop, the Harmsen Group and Wicks Carpets.
