VOTERS in Henley are in no danger of being uninformed, as nearly 10 tonnes of election literature has come through their front doors.
Laura Bristow, of the Dorchester-on-Thames Carbon Project, has received 13 leaflets from the Lib Dems and 10 from the Tories already, weighing 226g between them.
She said: “There are 42,300 households in the constituency, so when you add up all this paper it comes to 9.5 tonnes. Apart from the annoyance there is the very serious issue of waste.
“Candidates John Howell and Stephen Kearney must be feeling very insecure to feel the need to contact their potential constituents so frequently.”
And she had this message for the wannabe MPs: “Remember lads – it’s not quantity it’s quality!”
The by-election on Thursday is expected to be an easy win for Tory John Howell as former Conservative MP Boris Johnson, now London Mayor, had a 12,000 majority in the 2005 general election, but the Lib Dems are fighting hard, this week sending three past and present party leaders to the constituency.
Mr Johnson decided to stand down after winning the London Mayoral Election in May.
Candidates:
John Howell (Tory)
Stephen Kearney (Lib Dem)
Richard McKenzie (Lab)
Mark Stevenson (Green Party)
Peter Owen (Official Monster Raving Looney Party)
Louise Cole and Amanda Harrington (Miss Great Britain Party)
Rev. Dr. Richard Rodgers (Common Good party)
Chris Adams (UK Independence Party)
Tim Rait (British National Party)
Derek Allpass (English Democrats)
Harry Bear (Independent Fur Play)
