Man seriously hurt in M4 crash

Printer Print Article

A MAN has been left critically ill following an accident on the M4 this afternoon (Friday).

The crash happened at around 2.30 when a Honda, driven by a man in his 60s left the westbound carriageway between junction 12 and 13 and hit a tree.

The man was cut free from his car by fire crews and airlifted to Oxford’s John Radcliffe Hospital, which specialises in brain injuries.

Twenty fire officers from Newbury, Dee Road and Whitley Wood attended the scene and Dee Road watch manager Luke Coleman said: “It took a while to cut him out because the dashboard had trapped his legs and we needed to cut the roof off the car. A heavy duty support vehicle from Newbury also helped us out.”
