Bogus caller on the prowl

Printer Print Article

EAST Reading residents should be on the look-out for a bogus caller claiming to be from Sky.

Peter Garratt, of Coventry Road, got a knock on the door at 4pm yesterday (Thursday). The man claimed to be a salesman, but acted very suspiciously, claiming to have sent a digital box to every home in the road the previous week.

Mr Garratt said: “I got the impression he was trying to gain entry, he was being very pushy and when I asked to see some ID, he flashed a piece of plastic but wouldn’t let me examine it.

“He left and I followed him down the road - he was walking erratically down Cholmeley Road and when he saw me he ran off. I couldn’t chase him because I have a bad foot, but it made me even more suspicious.”

Mr Garratt, 53, said the man had looked about 20, with short ruffled hair, a white shirt with vertical stripes and a tie, and was carrying a shiny black briefcase. He was slim an around 5ft 9ins.

Police are investigating after Mr Garratt reported the man.
