TALK about putting their best foot forward...
These youngsters got a colourful demonstration of the size of their carbon footprints at a four-day environmental event at The Oracle shopping centre in Reading.
The students, from Chiltern Edge School in Sonning Common, were invited to paint the soles of their feet to show shoppers just how much we all need to think about the energy we consume and the rubbish we throw away.
The centre also gave green-minded people the chance to swap at least two plastic bags for a reuseable bag, and a competition was organised to give away a lightweight, foldable bicycle.
The Oracle has already done its bit by implementing a variety of eco-saving measures, including water-saving devices in the toilets and a change in lighting to reduce power use.
Oracle manager Steve Belam said: “The Oracle is committed to working for a greener planet and already has numerous practices in place to help the environment.
“We held this event because we wanted to help our customers discover new ways of how they too can make a positive difference to the environment we live in.
“Shoppers got some useful tips and learned how some easy steps can be taken to really help in the campaign to reduce your carbon footprint.
“A children’s activity pack was also available which showed them that going green really can be fun.”
