Landmark pub set to reopen
By Alex Gore
A LANDMARK country pub which closed last year after running into financial difficulties is set to reopen.
Trade had been dropping off at The Bull at Stanford Dingley but last year’s dreadful, wet summer proved the final straw for popular owners Robert and Kate Archard and they decided to call it a day in September.
Among regular events at the pub was a monthly classic car rally which regularly attracted around 60 vehicles and their owners.
Pub operators, the Ram and Bull Pub company, has now acquired a new lease for The Bull Inn and plans to reopen the pub this month once it has been given a facelift.
The lease was acquired from Albanwise, which in turn bought the pub from property company Colliers Robert Barry for more than £850,000.
Richard Woodhead, from Colliers Robert Barry’s Reading office, said: “The Bull has six good letting bedrooms and with its genuine old world character will undoubtedly re-establish itself as a very popular destination venue.
"Despite the negative economic comments currently in the papers, the sale of The Bull generated very considerable interest and a number of competitive bids were received.”
The pub is a Grade II listed building, part of it dating back to the 15th century and in the past it has featured in the Good Pub Guide, Campaign for Real Ale guide and AA Places to Eat.
