FUN in the sun was a tall order on Bank Holiday Monday but stiltwalkers helped deliver at Katesgrove May Fair.

Glorious sunshine shone on the event at Waterloo Meadows. A stiltwalking balloon modeller, bouncy castle and face painter kept the children busy, while parents enjoyed the various stalls and refreshments.

The fair, in its 14th year and organised by Katesgrove Residents’ Association, was opened by Reading Mayor Chris Maskell.

Association chairman David Boobier said: “We are always lucky with the weather and every year the fair gets bigger and better.

“The rain this morning stopped for us. There are lots of people buzzing around and lots of activities for the whole family to get involved in.

“This year more people were involved and I think that has helped make a real difference.”

Delyth Massey, of London Street, said: “It is the first time we have been. There are lots of things for the children to do.”

Her six-year-old daughter, Ashton, said: “It is really good. All my friends are here and I have got a balloon cat from the stilt walker.”

Lettie Constantine took two of her grandchildren. She said: “Everyone is enjoying themselves, the kids like the bouncy castle.

“It is lovely weather and has been a great afternoon out.”

Cllr Maskell added: “It is a great example of what can be done when communities work together, for the benefit of the whole community.

“It is a really fun event and is an example to communities across Reading.”
