THIS week’s Retro picture shows school children celebrating May Day in the early 1930s.

The photograph was sent in by reader George Critchell, of Purley.

He said: “As an elderly resident I read with interest this weekly item about bygone times.

“I thought this photo would be of interest. It is of the May Queen ceremony at St Peter’s school, Earley. The two train bearers are Peggy Gostage and Connie Wickens.”

The photograph was taken around 1933. Do you recognise anyone in the photograph or remember being involved in the celebrations?
