GARAGES reported petrol sales were up across the Berkshire area over the weekend but there was no evidence of panic buying.
More than 1,000 workers at the Grangemouth refinery in Scotland walked out on a 48-hour strike on Sunday in a dispute over plans by owners Ineos to end the final salary pension scheme for new staff.
The refinery is Scotland’s main fuel supplier and the walkout has also meant the closure, for safety reasons, of the pipeline fronm the North Sea Forties field.
About 65,000 tons of fuel are being shipped in from Europe to cover for lost production.
Supplies to Reading and Berkshire petrol stations are normal and station operators say there are no reports of panic buying.
