CAKE, coffee and chat will be on offer at a new Community Cafe in Coley.
The low-cost cafe is open 10am-1.30pm every Friday at Coley Park Community Centre in Wensley Road.
It is run by volunteers from St Saviour’s Christian Centre in Berkeley Avenue.
Organiser Willis Higgins, the church’s community link officer, said: “I think the cafe will provide a place for people to come and meet other people.
“A lot of people, especially in the high rise, are very isolated. People don’t know their neighbours a lot of the time.
“What we’re hoping it might be is somewhere people feel comfortable coming in for a cup of coffee or a chat. We’re trying to be a church without walls, in the community. A lot of people just want to air their problems.
“We want people to come not only from this area, but also from near the Tilehurst Road and Katesgrove.”
The cafe was officially launched in the last week of March, with shepherd’s pie, chocolate cake and hot drinks. Guest Vi Couldrick said: “I thought it was very good. I think it is a good idea to come, and I hope they get a lot more people coming.”
Three different teams of volunteers will help prepare and serve an affordable meal from 12pm each week.
All are welcome. Contact St Saviour’s on 0118 950 5661.
