Officers investigate Blenheim Road blaze

Printer Print Article

FIRE chiefs were this morning investigating a suspected arson attack at a house in Blenheim Road in Reading.

The fire started around 7pm on Friday, and 20 fire fighters from Wokingham Road, Dee Road and Whitley Wood Stations were called to the scene.

All occupants of the flats in the converted three-storey building had escaped to safety before fire crews arrved.

A neighbour, who asked not to be named, said "I don't know them very well at all because I've only just moved here, but someone from the house knocked on my door last night and said there was a fire and I should get out. It seemed quite a big fire."

Another said: "I think six or seven people live there, but I don't think anyone was badly hurt. Fire and police have been here all night and I hope they can find out how it started."

Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman Nicole Targett said the blaze was being treated as suspicious and police were investigating.
