Reading takeover round-up as new owner search breaches 250 days
September 29, 2023. 257 days ago, Reading Football Club announced that Chinese billionaire Dai Yongge was listening to offers for the club. Seven years into his reign, and a long-overdue relegation, Yongge’s tap ran dry. Be it through choice or inability, staff and players were regularly unpaid, as were the tax authorities, in what was a crisis summer 12 months ago. In that time, the club have been repeatedly kicked with embargoes, points deductions and bad publicity, but on the field the club rallied like never before. As we sit here now, almost a calendar year on, little has changed. Names are linked and figures are thrown around, but the only concrete news anyone has is that Yongge’s name remains above the door. For those, of which I’m sure there are many, that have lost track- take a look below at a timeline of the club’s annus horribilis and where we stand in the present day.

Who is Rob Couhig? Former Wycombe Wanderers chief leads Reading takeover saga
In the latest twist to Reading's protracted takeover saga, 75-year-old Rob Couhig has emerged as a leading candidate. Someone previously largely unknown by Royals supporters, many know about the American now, or at least have heard the name. That is because as recently as March, while owner of near-neighbours Wycombe Wanderers, Couhig attempted to buy the Royals' prestigious Bearwood training facility. Causing outrage amongst supporters, protests were held outside the Chairboys' Adam's Park stadium and eventually, a deal fell through.

Reading legend searching for 12th club of career after confirming Hibernian exit
Reading legend Adam Le Fondre is on the search for the 12th club of his career as his spell with Hibernian comes to an end. The 37-year-old bagged 41 goals in 110 appearances for the Royals, firing the club into the Premier League and notching double figures in three successive campaigns. Enjoying legend status with Bolton Wanderers too in his long and varied career, the Mancunian was prolific in India as well as Australia. Linking up with former Reading teammate Jordan Obita at Hibernian last summer, Le Fondre hit five goals in 26 appearances while at Easter Road and was signed by Royals icon Brian McDermott while Director of Football.

Former Wycombe Wanderers chief 'leads the way' in Reading takeover saga
Former Wycombe Wanderers owner Rob Couhig is keen on purchasing Reading Football Club, just months after he controversially tried to buy their Bearwood training facility. The 75-year-old American took over at Adam's Park in 2019 and has led the Chairboys to unprecedented success, including a first-ever season in the Championship. Previously with little ill-feeling between the two neighbouring sides, tempers flared in March when Wycombe revealed plans to purchase Bearwood from Royals owner Dai Yongge. Sparking protests outside the stadium, the move fell through quickly after coming to light.

Leaving Jack Grealish out of England’s squad could be a big mistake
I’ve always quite liked the banner that adorns the Colin Bell stand at Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium. In white letters on a navy blue background are the words: ‘We’re Not Really Here’. It popped into my head last week when England manager Gareth Southgate unveiled his squad for Euro 2024, and, presumably for a laugh, left off the name of Jack Grealish. The collective media rolled their eyes in faux surprise. ‘Good one Gareth, such a joker, have you thought of stand-up, you’ve got the waistcoat for it. Now where’s the real list, Gareth… Gareth!??'
